Micro-Mover Luggage Cart

Has anyone used the Samsonite Micro-Mover luggage cart. It weighs 2 1/2 pounds and folds up small enough to fit in your carry on. Might be the perfect answer when you can't decided between a bag with or without wheels. (My bag weighs 1 3/4 pounds empty so using it with this cart puts it at just over 4 pounds--less than a wheeled bag.

Frank, have not looked at the cart. On our first trip fifteen years ago to Europe we actually took a heavy duty, steel tube luggage cart and too much luggage. After three weeks of cobble stone streets, no curb cuts, and too many stairs, the cart was completely destroyed and deposited in the trash can at the Milan airport. Lesson learned !!! We don't like wheel luggage in Europe -- too many problems. So my initial reaction is that the cart is not a good idea. But it is your choice !!

I've done Europe with both wheels and no wheels. And I agree that some streets are bad for carts. And trying to use it on stairs would be a joke. But sometimes, in airports, and train stations, or near the end of a trip, your back just says enough. And as I'm getting older, my back starts to speak louder.

That's why I asked about this cart. It gives me the option of carrying my pack on my back or using the cart. My pack weighs under 2 pounds (empty) so even with this cart the weight is just over 4 pounds. Much less than wheeled luggage and will keep me under the weight restrictions of many European air carriers. And I pack very light.

I used a similar cart, one recommended on the onebag site a few years ago. Overall, I would say it was, as my mother in law would say, "fiddly".My husband and kids with pack or rollers would be ready to go, and I'd be fiddling w/the bungee cords. Worked great at airports, and held my outdoor products bag fine on minor bumps. Hope you have more patient travel companions.

I have never travelled with my back-pack and wished I had, or needed a rolling bag instead. Nor were there any times when it was more advantageous to have it roll. (The one exception would be the metro, but I wouldn't want to fiddle with a cart there).

If its transport in and around the trainstations and airports that you are concerned about (when you would need to put on and take off frequently) they almost always have luggage carts there for you to use.
