We will be on a Mediterranean cruise in Oct. One of the ports we stop in is Florence and will be touring on our own. We would like to see Michelangelo's David. Any suggestions for the best way to tour the Uffizi Museum? Has anyone used a tour group in Florence? Thank you,
Chris
Well, the first thing to know is that David is at the Accademia, not at the Uffizi. Very easy to see on your own; you can get a reservation online in advance and then just show up.
Thank you for your response.
Since tour time in Florence will be limited, you should make reservations for the Accademia. Instructions are in Rick's book or I can provide a link later ( can't do it on the iPad).
The Accademia is relatively small, if you are interested in Medieval and Renaissance painting, go upstairs to the Pinacoteca. If you have another hour to spend, I suggest the Museum of San Marco, just up the same street from the Accademia; it has frescoes by Fra Angelico (up a flight of stairs, if that's an issue).
And I may be stating the obvious, but be aware that Florence itself is not the port. Most cruises dock just south of Pisa, Florence would be about an hour by train.
Thank you for the info. It is helpful to know this prior to traveling. We appreciate you taking the time to post.
Check out artvivatours.com. I was just on that site to check out tours for my Florence trip and they offer tours from the port. Not sure how much they are but it may be well worth for you to check it out. Their Florence tour includes a stop at the Accademia and Uffizzi.
