Metro station maps

I am looking for a website that will give me access to the metro stations around Rome, Italy. Is there a week pass that you can buy for the metro?

I don't find the Rome Metro "nearly useless". It depends to some extent on where one is going. For example, getting to the Colosseum from the Termini area is very easy via Metro, as there's a station right across the street from the Colosseum.

Again depending on the trip, sometimes using the Metro in combination with Bus or Tram works well (and of course walking).

The situation will probably improve when the third Metro line is complete, but I haven't seen a definite completion date on that yet.

Cheers!

Rick's info is that Metro Line C won't be completed until 2020.Although the existing lines A and B of the Rome metro system are limited in coverage, combined with the bus system they get you around efficiently to many places on the tourist's itinerary. Lines A and B include these useful stops:Termini RepubblicaBarberiniSpagnaFlaminioOttaviano Cipro-Musei VaticaniTiburtinaColosseoPiramideEUR

However, Kathy, the metro in Rome is nearly useless as it does not go anywhere important. The bus system is better.

I don't want to get into a prolonged discussion on the relative merits of the Rome metro system. I didn't say it was worthless just close. We been in Rome four times for a total approaching three weeks and have used the metro exactly twice. Once from the Vatican back to Termini and another time when we went to Ostia Antics.

Remember Kathy was asking about a week pass for the metro. IMO a week pass (if available) would probably be wasted since the opportunity to use the metro is limited because of where it goes or doesn't go. I don't even find the buses all that useful because the area of ancient Rome is so convenient for walking. Public transportation for sightseeing in Rome is not as critical as other places like Paris, London, Madrid, etc. Obviously for travel outside of the core area public transportation is important.

You can get a subway map from dufferent location in Rome, tourist info , train stations etc.
I don't know about a week pass, but you can get an unlimited trasportation day pass for 4EUR good for bus and subway. I don't know if it's worth to guy a week pass anyway, because you can easily walk. The subay stops are kind of far from each other and you would need to walk anyway. A good map is more useful than a week pass.
Rome's traffic is derible from early in the morning until 5-6 PM, or even later. I wouldn't take the bus, they are slow and when I was in Rome last year there were many contrusctions in the center of Rome , which made the traffic even worse.

OUCH - Too much bashing of the ATAC system here! Okay, we ONLY have two metro lines, & yes they are quite limited in scope as compared to other European cities! But combined with the bus network, you can easily get around Rome, if you know the bus routes. You only get to BASH IT if you live here - LOL!

There are multipe passes available. I use a mensile, which is a monthly pass for €30. That gives me UNLIMITED access on the metro, bus, tram system and 3 regional train lines in Rome, including the LIDO line which takes you to the BEACH and to Ostia Antica. You can also buy various forms of the a Lazio pass which gives you more Regional Train Access, but most tourists do not need that! The other passes are:

BIT Integrated Time Ticket: Single trip (good for 75 minutes and 1 metro run) €1.

BIG Integrated Daily Ticket: Unlimited travel for one day, €4.

BTI Integrated Tourist Ticket - an unlimited 3-day pass, €11.

CIS Integrated Weekly Ticket - an inlimited weekly pass, €16.

If you're traveling in from Civitavecchia for the day then the Lazio Pass for €9 covers your Regional train travel into Rome and back to the port PLUS all your metro/bus trips in Rome that day!

When I show folks and friends around Rome, we are always jumping on and of the buses and metro. It cuts down on walking. Rome IS an easy city to get around, IF you know where you're going - and even easier, IF you know which bus to jump on and off of! Yes, we have traffic, but don't most larger cities?

The ATAC site CLICK HERE can give you a metro map and bus information. Unfortunately, the C line will probably not be completed in my lifetime. Currently the B line is being extended towards Porta di Roma, & the D and E lines are "on the board." So maybe in 50 years Rome will have a more "useful" metro system. Until then, the buses will have to carry the load!

See you on the bus - or maybe not!
