Meeting Place at Madrid Airport

My wife and I will be meeting our 19 year old son mid-vacation at Barajas Airport in Madrid in June; and we are looking for an easy place to meet. My wife and I will be flying in from Marsielle via Ryanair arriving about 1:30 p.m. Best that I can tell Ryanair arrives at Terminal 1 in Madrid.

Our son will be joining us from Seattle. I have booked his Air France ticket so that he arrives in Madrid about an hour later than we arrive. This will give him plenty of time to clear customs and make his connection from CDG. It looks like Air France arrives at Terminal 2.

If my wife and I are travelling between terminals 1 & 2 at the Madrid airport, will we be able to make our way directly to our son's arrival gate; or will we need to meet him outside of a security area because of the travel between terminals?

Are there any obvious spots in Barajas Airport that should be a first choice for a meeting place if we miss each other at a gate? Thanks.

(Clarification) You can't meet him at the gate.....but you can meet him outside the luggage area once he picks up his luggage at the arrivals area in T2....the sliding doors are surrounded by a barricade, and you'll see lots of other people gathering around waiting for their friends and loved ones.
The next-best place is probably at the top of the stairs leading down to the Metro station. It's right at the junction of T2 and T3...just follow the signs.
