If you want to work overseas. It's best to search USAjobs.com for jobs in the countries you would like to work in. The jobs would be working for the US government at a base, embassy, hospital or security job at a port or airport.

"but know that it is very difficult to break into the European medical world as an American"... Actually, it isn't, compared to most other career fields. Europe has the same problems that we do with staffing enough skilled medical workers. Each country has it's own rules, but in general, most European nations waive the usual non-EU hiring restrictions for medical workers. The most difficult part is getting licensed, because you usually have to pass an advanced language proficiency test.

But the above reference, because it comes from the military, is a special case. Legally, the military health care clinics overseas are under US jurisdiction. So, working there would be the same as working anywhere else in the US as long as you have a license from any state.

The problems with working in another country at their hospital is 1. the language barrier, you need to be really proficient and 2. the pay, nurses get paid very little in Germany, Italy and the UK (compared to the US), and they don't do all that RNs do in the States, so your skills would probably decline.
