My wife and I are leaving for Europe September 30, for 15 days. We need to obtain medical insurance. We followed a tip on this forum, and went to Insuremytrip.com. One of the policies we are interested in is from a company called Medex. Has anyone had any experience with Medex? Would it be a good company to obtain the insurance from? We will appreciate any comments - thank you.
Bill
I've purchased Insurance with them, knock on wood I've never had to file a claim. But I believe they are they biggest travel insurance company out there, and have a good reputation.
We were just checking our insurance since we are leaving in two weeks for a month. I know that Medicare does not work in Europe but our supplement BC/BS covers 80% and BC/BS has a network of doctors in Europe that is recommended. If a non-emergency they gave us a call back number to use to find their approved doctors. There is a cap -- could be $20,000/person. So the only thing we are going to carry is evacuation insurance.
Michael-
Thanks so much for your response, it helps to know that they are a recognized company. I think we are going to buy the insurance from them. Bill
Do you not have any insurance normally?
It's a good suggestion to review your insurance to find out requirements when traveling but it seems unusual to have insurance that provides no coverage overseas.
squaremouth.com is a good website for comparing companies. This is the first time we have purchased the insurance. We purchased with Travelex.
Brad - We are both on Medicare and have checked it out, and believe that Medicare does not cover us overseas.
Thanks, Bill
Medicare, since it's a US government program, wouldn't cover you overseas. Some private insurance companies do provide coverage, but many ask you to pay for the services first and then file a claim when you get home.
Frank, call back and ask about evac. My BC/BS covers evac also.
