anyone have any experience with mbt walking shoes. They are swiss made and of a revolutionary design. I have a bad hip and have been looking for new walking shoes before I venture to spain in the summer. The owner of the walking store highly recommended the mbt shoes. They are quite expensive so I thought I would inquire if anyone has used them over an extended period

I have two pairs of MBT's that I regularly wear to work. They are wonderful for knees, hips, backs and feet, but they do really work your muscles much more than regular shoes. I can tell a big difference in muscle tone since I started wearing them last fall.
They take some getting use to. I purchased both of my pairs, new, from ebay for less than list price. I tried on a pair at a local store and then found the ones I wanted there. I saved about $50 on the first pair, and paid about 1/2 the retail on the other one.
I probably will not take them on my trip to Europe in May. The reason is that my trip will be very walking intensive and they do fatigue your muscles more than regular shoes. They also have a rocker effect that can make going up and down stairs a little tricky.
If you do think you want them, get them now and get used to them first.
Yes, I bought two pairs of these shoes two years ago to alleviate all the pain in my foot from many years of having plantar fasciatis. The shoes more than adequately stretched my calves well which alleviated the foot pain. I wear them 7 days a week and work full time. I stand most of the day on my job and walk on a lot of concrete all day. When I used them for the first year, I found them incredibly comfortable and more supportive than a running shoe or sneaker.
However and just recently, I've been diagnosed with a 4 mm bulging disk which radiates pain in my sciatica and down and around on my left leg. I've had excruciating and chronic pain for the past year and now I am wondering if the shoe made my back condition worse. I found that wearing the MBT shoes increased pain in my sciatica, due to the shoes completely stretching my calves and hamstrings.
As a result of back injury and pain, I now wear them much less because I don't want to irritate the nerve in the backside of my leg anymore.
I too have wanted to purchase a pair of MBT shoes. I Tried a pair on and they felt soooo comfortable. I have arthritis in my big toe, so any kind of rolling shoe will help this pain to go away. Just saving my money.
I have returned from my trip to Spain and Portugal. The MBT shoes worked very well in museums and walking on pavement. I literally was able to stand on the hard floors of museums with little or no hip pain and I walked a lot on city streets without any discomfort. I also brought with me Ecco walking shoes which did better on the cobblestone streets and on trails in the Mountains. All and all I was quite pleased with the MBT shoes. They did however take a while to get used to.
