May Itinerary....Amsterdam, Italy, Paris

Worked out the final arrangements for our trip. Because of using miles to fly business class on Air France I was limited to flights and dates but it worked out well. Maybe a little longer than we would have liked but since we haven't been able to get back for three years since the last trip I figured why not. Most hotels are RS recommended. I don't think we will burn more than a half day with any travel between stops except the ones by car that we want to take longer.

Amsterdam 3 nights at Hotel Hegra.
Fly to Venice for 2 nights at Pensione Guerrato.
Train to Siena for 3 nights Hotel Italia. Rent a car on the third day to drive a Northern loop of hill towns.
Drive to Montepulciano at Mueble Riccio for a night stopping in Montalcino and/or Pienza.
Drive to Orvieto drop off car after visiting Civita Grand, Hotel Italia 1 night.
Train to Rome for 4 nights near the Pantheon.
Fly to Paris for 6 nights at an Apartment in the 7th.

Our last trip started in Paris and we were so jet lagged that we really didn't get to see much of the city. I know the regulars on this board have a disdain for Rue Cler but my wife liked the area on our last visit and having an apartment there seems like the way to go. I was hesitant to book one night stays anywhere but I wanted to be settled in able to walk to dinner in a hill town. We stayed in Florence on our last trip and would like to see the David again but we are going through on a Monday. I know some will say 2 nights in Venice isn't enough but if we love it we will go back another time.

So what does the brain trust think? Any suggestions or criticism are welcome.

Your itinerary looks just fine to me--since you've been to Florence before.

I think it looks fine. If you haven't been to the Museo San Marco in Florence, it's just up the street from the Accademia.

Since you are staying in Venice overnight, enjoy the evening after all of the tourists have left. My wife and I stayed late and enjoyed one of the best dinners on a cafe sidewalk, off the beaten path, in Venice on night.

You will definitely enjoy Venice more, after the crowds have left.

Well based on the lack of any negative responses I guess I'm on the right track.

Ah, Richard, the day is young...

Actually, you've been negative-free for almost a week! I think your plan is perfectly appropriate.

Less than a month to go! I obsessively check this forum and any other info on the Internet I can glean. My wife just wants to be surprised and doesn't like to talk about the trip much in advance.

Now I just need to figure out my training from my Madames and I'll be all set.
