Maternity leave trip in South of Europe (Croatia, Portugal, Montenegro

Hi

We are planning a a month long trip from week 37, this year. We have taken first dose of the corona vaccine, and will have taken both or just the first when we travel. The corona situation in the country will decide at the end, where we go. We will wait until a week or two before we go, to book.

We are travelling with a 8 month year old baby and will do a relaxing vacation. We will take it easy and go to the beach and restaurants, and rent an appartment /house. It will be important that grocery shop, restaurant and beach are in close distance.
We have been to croatia before and do consider ending up nearby Makarska in the two last weeks, but this is not a must.

I would love input or tips on where to go? We have concidered Montenegro, Portugal and South of italy, but havent really gotten a great feeling on a particular destination. We love authentic places, and can rent a house, appartment or car. We can stay in an appartment in a hotel if its not super touristic.

Happy for all input or ideas 😊⛱️🌊 We want to try to think a bit outside the box 😊

I have to say that I can't imagine planning a trip to any foreign country before at least the adults are fully vaccinated. You'll have to keep very close tabs on not only the infection rate at your planned destination but also the entry restrictions for that country and whatever other country/countries you have to transit to get there. The infection rate in the US has started rising again, as it has in a lot of other countries; is that going to result in more restrictions on unvaccinated visitors? I am concerned about that even as a vaccinated American.

Hate to say I agree with acraven. You aren't fully immunized until a few weeks after your second shot and with all the planes being full and people traveling(the holiday weekend traffic here in the US is INSANE),

I guess I'd look into what countries are majority vaccinated and go from there.

Do any of your contemplated destinations have restrictions on visitors from your home country?

Your uncertainty about having had your 2nd shot by Sept. leads me to think you are not in the US (?)

The corona situation in the country will decide at the end, where we go. We will wait until a week or two before we go, to book.

Good to see this is your plan

Hi

We travel from Norway and do not have restrictions as of now. But we will offcourse wait and see how the situation is in the different countries, and will most likely have gotten our second shot before travelling.

Aside from this do you have any ideas /input on destinations?

I'm not sure this is the best place to look for tips on that kind of vacation. Most of the members of these boards are North Americans who travel to Europe for history/culture. While many of us might have planned a day or two in beach towns, I don't think many people here would have a lot of recommendations for a longer, self-catering holiday at a European beach.

If you are from North America, why spend on airfare to fly to Europe to go to the beach?

Beaches are better in the Caribbean or even the Gulf in Florida.

Of course, if you really want beaches in Europe, consider Greek Islands.

Sorry you didnt get a lot of direct answers to your questions. For what you described I might be inclined to look for a AirBnb in Herceg Novi, Montenegro. Pretty beautiful location but more real than tourist. Or maybe something similar.

Croatia has full entry condition details online under Enter Croatia and also I use 'Total Croatia News' a lot.

As I understand it, Croatia demands both vaccine shots and a 14 day period since the last one. Or you must quarantine. The rules changed again today, due to the Covid Delta variant.

You can ask Enter Croatia/MUP (the police), they have an email to contact.

Istria, the left side of Croatia facing Venice, has the lowest rates of Covid, almost the lowest in Europe. They also have the highest rates of vaccination in Croatia, which explains the first sentence. And lots of beaches, and camps and apartments.
What the rules are for children, who are of course not vaccinated under 12, is the next question.
Rovinj in Isrtria/Croatia or any of the northern Kvarner islands (Cres, Losinj, Rab, Pag...) would be my choice (and have been).
Apartments and rooms for rent will be glad to see you. Croatia is open for business.
