We are planing a trip to the Maramures region on Romania in late April and hoping to find a guide with a car and overnight lodging at a farm house for one night similar to the film Rick made on Romania. The one we had booked back in November is not working well at this point. We are Flying into and staying at Cluj-Napocia. Any suggestions?

I took a 2-day van tour to Maramures in 2015. It was arranged by the Retro Hostel in Cluj-Napoca, although I was not staying at the hostel. English was spoken at the hostel at that time, so you could try emailing them.
The driver/guide on my trip was Mr. Florin (Flor EEN) Merciu. I have very little experience with guided tours of that type, but I really liked Florin and felt like we covered a lot.
I also liked the little rural B&B-style place where we stayed, but unfortunately I failed to note the name and address.

Finding a good guide and a farm house similar to the Rick's film is quite difficult due to the short time prior your trip. Try contact romaniatourism.com, they have a lot of connections.

If you have time, try to see more of Romania. Within morning or evening driving distance/train ride from Cluj:
- Alba Iulia - 1.5 hour drive - the original capital of Romania after the 1918 unification. Sweet fortress with bastions and national museum. (on the way to Sibiu or Hunyadi Castle)
- Sibiu - 2.5 hour drive - 2007 European Capital of Culture. German town with great cathedrals, squares, and fortifications. Several nearby villages worth visiting.
- Hunyadi Castle (Hunedoara) - 2.5 hour drive. Fantastic medieval castle.
- Sighisoara - 2.5 hour drive - Vlad the Impaler's (Dracula) birthplace with exceptional clock tower and churches and fortifications (and lots of historic fortified churches in the area).
- Targu Mures - 1.75 hour drive - Hungarian city fortress with fortified church. (on the way to Sighisoara)
- Turda salt mine - 45 min. drive (on the way to Targu Mures/Sighisoara or Alba Iulia/Sibiu)
