Maps and aps for MacBook Air

Hi everyone, Month trip of Europe coming up soon and I need advice about making the best use of my MacBook Air laptop. For instance, best mapping software that works offline as well as online and any other apps you may recommend, art. museums, wine, GPS, tours, etc.
Thanks!

Since the Macbook Air is not an iOS device, there really are not "apps" for it as the term is generally understood. There is software for it, certainly, and it can be found at the Mac App store. But those tend to be a lot different and more work-related than the sorts of apps you use on an iPhone. Apps for the iPhone are handy, in part, because they are available on the fly and stay in your pocket. The Macbook Air won't be in your pocket, and is not generally convenient to access except at your hotel or coffee shop. Many places will have wifi available which makes the entire world of information just a bookmark or Google search away with wifi. No need for a special "app". For those bits of web information that you want access to - including maps - without wifi, all you need to do is access them at home (or anywhere with wifi) and then take a "screen shot" which saves what you see on the screen as a photo you can access any time. To do this, push down command-shift-4 at the same time. crosshairs will appear where your cursor was. move the crosshairs to the window you want a screen shot of, then hit the space bar (a camera icon shows up), then click. It sounds complicated, but it's not. We do this for maps (using Google Maps) all the time. The variety of maps available is infinite.

I did screen shots of turn-by-turn directions between two cities (a friend was driving), it worked out great.

Thanks to the both of you. I'm new to Mac and screen shots will work. Any voice translator software you may enjoy?
