Will be in Malta for maybe 4 days (haven't finalized plans yet) in late January, and will then be going on to Sicily for couple of weeks (but wanted to see Malta as part of that trip). Some basic questions to get your input: (a) get a rental car or not (I assume the answer is no from what I see reported generally), unless spending some days in Gozo, (b) better to stay in one city (like Valetta) and use that as a base to get around, if only going to be there 4 days or so, or better to split the stay with maybe 2 days Valetta and 2 days some other town? (c) what is best guide book (d) what is best way to get to Sicily after
I wasn't happy with the cost of the Sicily-Malta ferry as of 2015, so I opted not to visit Malta. I now know that there are also flights, and I'm sure Chani will spot this thread and provide input.
Fly - I paid about $22 for a one way ticket on Ryanair between Catania and Malta.
Rental cars on Malta are very cheap - definitely get one if going to Gozo.
They drive on the left in Malta (like the UK). I really enjoyed Rabat and Mdina for a day, but I don't think it's worth moving. It's not that far, even if there's a lot of traffic, it would still be a day trip. Maybe take a guided tour to Gozo . . .
