Malta or Gozo?

We are going to spend a week on Malta in September, my wife, our 15 months daughter and me.
Among all other things I'd have made a couple of dives, may be 2-3 days of diving.
Trying to understand first of all if it's better to stay on Gozo or on Malta to combine comfort for traveling with small child and same time willing to dive on best sites there.
Appreciate in advance your help to decide.

Gozo is farther from the airport, which is close to Valletta, Malta (so keep that in mind). Most of the diving will be around Gozo or the smaller island (Comiso) and you need to get there by ferry. It really depends how you're planning on getting around - by bus or rented vehicle - and what other sites you want to see. Most historical sites are in Valletta and scattered around Malta. However, there are some attractions in Gozo as well.

Check out this website and also Lonely Planet Malta book, if it's available to you. Trip Advisor is also a good resource, much more thorough than this forum.

My wife and I went when our daughter was 2.5 yrs and stayed on Gozo at a hotel that also ran a dive shop (there are a lot of these). There is plenty to see and do on Gozo with a small child and depending on where you stay you might not even need a car (we didn't use one, took the bus or got rides from the hotel owner in his mini bus he uses during dive season).

I'd say pick a hotel in Gozo that offers diving trips as well and you will save your self a lot of hassle.
