Mailing a suitcase back to U.S,A

I'm in Paris and want to lighten my load. Has anyone ever walked into a French post office and mailed a suitcase back to the states? I could box things up but I'd like to send the suitcase as well. It could take weeks to ship for all I care. I don't speak french well enough to ask difficult questions at the Le Poste.

Hi Richard,
How lucky you are to be in Paris! You are the envy of many of us here! Just don't tell us you can see the Eiffel tower from your window or we will all turn GREEN with envy! LOL!

I have mailed things home from abroad but never from France.
Suggestion:
If you are going to box up your entire suitcase, don't seal it up until after it's been weighed and you know what the cost will be. That way you can remove things if you need to without having to unwrap it again last minute. I've learned that the hard way...
If you're at a hotel, maybe the Reception staff would be kind enough to call Le Bureau de Post for you to translate and ask questions. (That is assuming that the staff at the desk is bi-lingual, and I would guess that they probably are.)

If you could weigh/measure your bag at the hotel you might be able to get an approximate quote as to the postage costs. That way you won't be lugging it there and possibly discover that it is more expensive to ship than you might have thought.

Enjoy Paris! In my mind's eye I can just see all the pretty lights!

Safe Travels,
F/A

Is the reason you are shipping it just a case of bringing home too much stuff? You will probably find it easier to just pay the charge depending on the airlines.

Having moved home FROM France a few times I have been over weight, and found this to be the cheapest way. I think one suitcase may be too small to warrant freighting it.

Most post offices will be able to help you in English or at least with an automated machine.

I didn't mail a suitcase, but I've mailed a package of extra stuff through the French post. I do speak French, but mailing a package is easy enough.
