Madrid to Barcelona, Salzburg to Vienna mode of transportation

From Salzburg to Vienna you can take the Westbahn train. You pay (less) when you board. It's cheaper than the Austrian National Railway. Check with the Westbahn website. It tells you their network from which city to which destination.

You can take the AVE train from Madrid to Barcelona. You can book your train tickets on the Spanish Railway at Renfe.com

Renfe runs the Spanish train system so that is the only train. You can book it on their site or through 3rd party sites. It will be the same train. Sometimes the 3rd party sites are easier to use but they charge higher fees. Petrabax is one I used once when there was a problem with Renfes website.

Renfe is where to look/book for Spain. Buses are popular in Spain but the fast train would be my top choice. There are other train names. AVE is the most well known fast train, but there's at least one other that goes about the same speed and then at least one or two slower trains. When booking, I pay attention to trip duration to make sure I'm getting the best choice - rather than something with a long change or lots of stops.
