Lyon apartment

Have you rented an apartment in Lyon that you recommend? We spend 6-7 weeks a year in Europe and are thinking of retiring in Lyon in two or three years; this summer we'll spend two weeks in Berlin, then five weeks in Lyon as a trial. We usually use VRBO and other sites, but would like to know your experiences. We would also appreciate comments on your experience in staying in different arrondissements in Lyon. We have always stayed in Presque Isle. Thanks!

Dennis, did you find any info on rentals? I am currently looking for a rental in Lyon this summer. What sites/agencies do you recommend? We will also need rentals in Paris, Med, and maybe Provence.

Yes indeed! We stayed at an apartment across the street from the main food hall in Part Dieu. It was two blocks from the subway and one block from the bus line (about 7 blocks from the Rhone). Two blocks to Part Dieu railway station (and the tram to the airport) and the biggest shopping mall in Europe. It's on a pedestrian street with a small store directly downstairs and the best frozen food store in France (if you haven't gone to a Picard Surgelet you haven't seen frozen food, it's incredible) is right next to the food hall. She charged us 1350 euros per month, but it looks like she's raised it and the new price is over what you should pay. But we loved it. Try to stay on the Part Dieu side of the Rhone, but close to the river. Downtown is noisier, especially on Rue Merceiere. We're spending 10 days in Zurich and 7 weeks in Berlin this coming summer, and plan on 4 weeks in Budapest and 5 weeks in Istanbul the summer after. We are torn between Lyon and southern Spain for 6 months (winter) a year, or perhaps both for three months or so each. We stayed in hotels in Provence and the rest of southern France, but in apartments in Italy. I hope you have a wonderful time! Tell us about your stay when you return! The best guide to Lyon is the Lyon-Rhone by Gallimard. The bookstore used for a movie on Lyon (forgot the name) is on the apartment's street and has all the Gallimard guides. We stay at a friend's apartment on the Ile St Louis in Paris. http://www.appart-ambiance.com/en/apartments/lyon-for-rent-furnished-accomodation-lyon-3-part-dieu.html
