it's an incidious decease.. some say it began at plum island research laboratory off long island ny in the long island sound.. it's a odd place.. where bad stuff an creepy experiments an deceases are kept & studied.. it's like the east coast's 'area 51'..anyway the ferry boats that ferrys the stuff an the science geeks to & fro,, the dock is only a few miles away from lyme conn.where the first human to be discovered with the decease, hence the name..

Some relevant data. The EU nations with the highest incidence, per 100,000 people, of Lyme disease are Slovenia with 206, Austria with 135, and the Netherlands with 103. Most of rest of the EU reports rates in the mid 20s and below (this data comes from the year 2005). For comparison, the national average for US states is 29, although certain counties in the Northeast report incidences as high as 300. So, your chances of contracting Lyme disease in most of Europe are lower than most of the US.

And by the way, the disease was described in Germany as early as the 1880s, it was only in Connecticut in the 1970s that the bacterial cause was first identified. Current thinking is that the disease came to North America from Europe.
