In a few days we will be arriving in Lviv by train. We want to take a taxi from the station to our hotel. We will need hryvni to pay for it. Are there ATMs or a currency exchange booth at the station? I’m assuming there will be taxis outside the station? I have the latest ed. of the Lonely Planet guide to Ukraine, but there’s no info in it specifically about the station in Lviv.
I don't know about ATMs, but there are taxis in front of the station. You have to haggle about the price. When I wanted to go to the centre they asked UAH 200. After 5 minutes it was down to 100.
I would think there would be ATMs though it has been over 6 years since I was at Lyiv’s station.
Have you checked for Uber and that way avoid the taxi mafia if it exists at the train station? I used Uber successfully about 2 weeks ago at Odessa airport and ended up paying 168 UAH for a select vehicle when the cabbies were asking for 1400 UAH which is over 10 times the normal price
I don’t have a phone, so Uber is not an option. My husband and I are both fluent in Ukrainian, so we can “discuss”the taxi fare if necessary. I’ve since learned that there are taxis at the exit from the station, so now just need to find out about getting some money. I’ve heard that ATMs are now very common in Ukraine, so hopefully there will be some in the station.
See this description of the station: https://www.inyourpocket.com/lviv/Arriving-in-Lviv. Google Maps also indicates at least 3 different bank ATMs in the station.
The Visa ATM locator shows 3 active ATMs in the Lviv train station. It is usually very correct.
L'viv wasn't my first stop in Ukraine, so I didn't need to hit an ATM right away and don't know what you'll find at the station. However, the country is full of banks and ATMs. It's too bad that so many of the ATMs charge fees.
These were non-fee-charging ATMs as of June 2018--as close as I can get on this tablet without access to the Ukrainian alphabet and without knowing how to copy and paste the bank names from the internet. I'm hoping you can figure what banks I'm referring to with these anglicized spellings (and my apologies to other readers for whom the information will be pretty useless in this form).
Ukrsibbank (BNP Paribas Group)
Prominvestbank
Credit Agricole (name appears in that form)
KredoBank (name appears in that form, at least on the receipt)
Ukrgyzbank (might have been Ukrgazbank)
Raiffeisen Bank ATMs in Ukraine charge fees--at least up to 10% on small withdrawals. Others charging fees are Alpha Bank, Ukrekcimbank (spelling?) and OTP Bank.
Thanks, everyone. Very helpful info as always from this group.
I forgot that there was an In Your Pocket guide to Lviv, We just used the Warsaw one and found it very good.
