Luxembourg to Konstanz Best Route

Hello, we are traveling from Luxembourg to Konstanz in August and are not able to find an easy route (less train transfers). Does anyone have any suggestions on the best route to make the trip?

Unfortunately, there appears to be track work on one or more rail lines in August, so it is more difficult with more transfers than normal. I'd take one with 5 transfers in 7 1/2 hours hours. Dep 7:33 to Trier, then Mannheim, then Stuttgart, then Boblingen, then Singen, then Konstanz. August is a popular month for DB to tear up the tracks for repairs.

Alternatively, you could take the route via Metz and Strasbourg. This does not necessarily reduce the journey time (well, i can see at least one trip in 5:18) and also has four changes, but it avoids the uncertainties caused by the construction sites between Mannheim and Basel. Search on the website of the Luxembourg railway (www.cfl.lu) to avoid the adventurous detours that DB has invented.

The route through Strasbourg has some advantages and some disadvantages.

Advantages: it is faster (5 1/2 hours), has fewer transfers (4), and routes you on the scenic Black Forest Railway from Offenburg to Konstanz.

Disadvantages: it begins with a bus (Luxembourg to Bettembourg), You cannot buy the ticket from DB as it cuts through France. Try Trainline to buy tickets. It leaves later in the morning (10:49) so you gets you to Konstanz a bit later.

Thank you for your responses. Due to the hassle of so many transfers for the trains, we decided to take a direct bus. I hear good things about the bus service and hopefully, it will work out.

Thank you again for your thoughtful help.

I drove most of the route via Strasbourg just last week. There's a considerable amount of road repair going on, so add an hour or two to whatever the bus driver says. Likewise DB has already stated that once the Euro 2024 games are over they will be inplementing major repair work. (Remember that much of the area in the Saarland/Alsace had flooding issues just a month ago.)

I highly recommend you fly to Lucerne and then take the train from there.

Also, you don't say if you're just going to Konstanz or the south end of the lake. Be advised it can take 2 (or more) hours to drive down either side in August.

If you're just going to Konstanz visit Mainau, and consider taking the ferry to Meersburg, especially if they have a fest going on there.
