Has anyone day tripped Luxembourg City to Trier? Is it better to do train or bus?

I have taken train in the other direction: Trier to Luxembourg City and then bus to the airport. Easy. I think a day trip to Trier would be a great way to spend a day.

Train is direct, takes an hour, and runs hourly, so that would be my choice. How to Look Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it.

Trier is an easy train ride from Luxembourg City. I went to Trier (from up the Mosel) but didn't continue on to Luxembourg.
