Luggage scales

Why would you want a luggage scale???

I have the Balanzaa Ergo. Works fine. Help's me keep my carry-on within the limits of the airline(s) I'm flying. I don't travel with it though. I only use it at home before the trip. I'm not a shopper so I don't usually add to my weight coming home.

I take my bag to the post office. They have an accurate digital scale. I, too, don't add anything significant to the weight.

Frank 1 is suspicious of Kathy, living so close to Tijuana an all. Don't worry, I'm pretty sure she's not moving kilos through S. Cal.

I've never had my bag weighed before boarding. But I've also never flown Ryan Air. And no amount of weighing is going to alter my packing as absolutely little as I possibly can.

I was asking about the need for a special scale for luggage. Everyone I know has a bath room scale. I get on with the bag and without. The difference is the weight of the bag. Why take it to the post office. That seems odd.

I've used the portable luggage scales at home, and I've also used the bathroom scales...the portable luggage scales are much easier.

I bought a digital luggage scale this year to make sure I stayed under SAS's 18 pound limitation, before that I just used bathroom scales..... I think mine is American Tourister (only because I pulled it off their display stand). I can't give you any brand advice but, for anyone who is using a battery operated scale only occasionally, be sure to pull the batteries out and store them seperately. If you don't, the scales are likely to be wrecked by battery acid before the next use. Batteries sitting in something that isn't being used regularly often leak.

I bought a portable luggage scale because we buy items on vacation. We visit family and bring things to them, so the weight of the bag fluctuates. I thought I bought the scale through Rick Steves, but can not find it. We used it for the first time 2 weeks ago and got different readings. And at the airport we were over the limit by a few pounds. Was really disappointed in the scale! It is a Travelon scale. Any one else have problems with this item?

We have one we bought on Magellan, it works well. Our luggage seems to get weighed all the time and hubby is horrible at packing light.

I looked at the Travelon website (also Magellan). Nowhere do they specify the accuracy of the scale. Maybe it did on the instructions? It probably said "not for trade". So you apparently bought a scale of indeterminate accuracy and got what you paid for. Which is why I suggested for a highly accurate weight, go to the post office. BTW, the graduation of the scale, e.g. 0.05 oz, is not the accuracy. Any scale that does not guarantee it's accuracy is worthless.

We use a Heys digital, easy to use and can be set at kilos or pounds. We check our bags at home prior to a trip and make any adjustments, don't bother bringing it along with us but a few trips we should have!
