Luggage Problem

I'll be studying abroad this semester in Milan, but for three weeks before the semester starts, I'll be traveling around to see London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Munich, Nice, Seville, Madrid, Valencia, and Barcelona (in that order.) The big problem I'm facing is that I'd like to have a fair amount of stuff for my extended stay in Milan but I also want to pack very lightly for my travel before the semester starts because I'll be staying alone in various budget hostels.

Does anyone have any bright suggestions on what I can do with my excess luggage? I can probably get away with having one great big suitcase for most of my Milan stuff and a much smaller duffle for the rest of my trip. Right now, I think it might be best for me to lose a day on my trip and travel from Munich to Milan, leave my stuff somewhere safe, and pick up again in Nice. I don't like the sound of that at all, but I'm not sure what my options are at this point. I have family in London, could I have them ship the luggage to me when I arrive in Milan?

You can leave your Milan bag at left luggage at the airport or lockers at a train or bus station. That means you will have to double back to get it.

In your case, a bee-line to Milan to store your luggage then traveling without worrying about it may be the best idea.

While shipping rates from the US to Europe is astronomical, they may not be so bad within Europe. Maybe more comparable to a cross country US shipment? It would be worth checking out the prices compared to the cost of you making a trip to Milan. Keep in mind that cost also includes your time. Your school in Milan may be able to store your package there if you notify them first.

My husband studies in Germany for a month at a time twice a year. He ships his heavy books to the school. Can take 6 weeks to arrive so preplanning is a must. Check with the school to see if they will accept a parcel for you. Don't ship anything you can't replace or that is of high value. That said, my husband buys most of what he needs for his stay (rents an apartment) once he arrives. Takes him a 1/2 day tops. Gives it away when he leaves.
