Luggage and a rental car

If we are renting a car and driving around Germany for a week to many destinations do you think it would still be better to use a back pack for luggage seeing that we will have plenty of room in the car?

If you are picking up the car when you arrive at the airport and then dropping it off when you leave, then no. You could take more luggage. But if you are planning to transfer into a city first and use public transport you'll appreciate having only a backpack.
