low-fat, low-sugar & gluten-free

I am looking for recommendations for how to travel and have meals at restaurants for someone on such a diet. I have the restaurant cards from celiac travel, but I'm concerned about the low-fat & low-sugar portion of the diet. Any ideas on how to handle this? Thoughts on the best countries in which to travel?

The UK would not pose a language problem and I think most resturants would be able to accomodate your needs. As for other countries- get someone to translate your needs and create you own cards. I am certain that diabetics must cope with similar problmes- maybe they have some resources you could tap into.

Other then language,( get a menu translator ) there should be no difference to eating at home. It is up to YOU to select items on the menus that are low in fat,, or ask for no sauces on your meats etc. And choose a side salad instead of fries or pasta. As for low sugar ,, everywhere I have ever been seems to have the sugar substutes for coffee ( or tea), I like to bring my own though as I prefer Splenda.

Desserts,, well, if they are low in fat they tend to be high in sugar,, and vice versus.. best bet it to avoid anything but fresh fruit(we all should avoid desserts really, LOL ) . Indulge once in awhile in a treat,, but low sugar and low fat "diet" desserts are something you generally see in super markets frozen aisles,, and tend to be so artificle,, yech,, better to have one nice dessert once a week then a plate full of chemicals..
