I agree with the others - the Lonely Plant site and Thorn Tree message boards are your best resource if you're travelling in parts of the world other than Europe.

Echo the previous posts, Lonely Planet. I've got lots of good information about other continents there.
On a related note, FYI. I found a used copy of Rick Steves book Asia Through the Back Door from 1993, 4th ed. It's an interesting read, but completely out of date.
