Lots of Walking -->Sore Feet Remedy

I learned this when in Australia. I do massive amounts of walking, covering alot of ground when sightseeing. My feet would start to become really sore after a few days into my vacation. I followed this tip...after coming back to my room from a day of sight-seeing, before going to bed, shower or wash feet, rub vicks vaporub on feet and then put on socks so the bedsheets won't stick. The next morning, not only will your feet be clean but also feel great and you can go through another day of walking.

Just wanted to share this as this really helped me get thru on my last vacation for 3 weeks.

I've also had success using this technique with Aspercreme, but don't use if you are allergic or can't have aspirin because of other meds. Also, switching between two pairs of shoes will help with achy feet.

I find wearing Thorlo socks and proper shoes is the only real remedy short of walking alot less. They cost about $11 per pair but worth every penny so as to not get blisters and fatigued feet. I never thought I would pay this much for socks but it works.
I do not work for Thorlo.

If your feet are also slightly swollen, try sleeping with them elevated (old army trick).

Socks made for diabetics are more comfortable than athletic socks. I've been wearing MediPeds that I bought at Target. They are soft and non-binding. I've seen similar, more expensive, diabetic socks in pharmacies. After a long day on my feet wearing my "sensible" shoes, I switch to sandals. This rests my feet and gives them a chance to dry out.

Ive been using the Patagonia-brand hiking socks (med-weight) for my trips - hiking in Norway and the Alps and locally in SoCal... they are all merino wool, have various knits in special areas to whick moisture - and stay formed to your foot (almost like a contour weave). They are between 17-19$ each - but a couple pairs are fine. Id gladly pay a few dollar for top performance and comfort. Also - an old hiker once told me always use the same pair of socks 2-3 days in a row then air dry at nite. (But - Id say slip on a fresh pair if you go out that night - then resume the previous pair the next day!) 3 pairs is all you need then!

At the end of the day, I stretch. One that really helps sore feet is laying on your back with one or both legs straight up and move your feet in circles to get the blood flowing.

For blisters, anti-perspirant works well. Blisters come from friction, which gets bad after your socks get wet from sweat. Anti-perspirant on your feet keeps your socks dry and saves your feet.
