We'll be stopping over in Paris in a few weeks with our two sons, ages 12 & 16. We're having trouble finding suitable, affordable lodging. In North America we can always find a room with two full or queen beds, but haven't seen this arrangement in Paris. Does it exist? A name of a clean, affordable place would be appreciated. BTW, we've already checked many of them on Rick's list.
Tracy's right, renting an apartment is the most affordable way to go for a few weeks in Paris. You'll get more room, a washer/dryer and a kitchen for a lot less than a hotel. There's a long list of reputable agencies at partisnotes.com. Enjoy!
oh boy--i get to be the first of MANY people to tell you this...rent an apartment. try parisattitude.com or vrbo.com. i'm renting an apartment in the marais this summer that has a double bed and a sofa bed for a total of around $1200 (depending on the exchange rate in june) for two weeks. and it has a kitchen, which i imagine would be an even better idea when traveling with a family. oh--and be prepared, if anyone else responds to this, they'll probably tell you the same thing. have a great trip--and that's awesome that you're taking your sons to paris.
Grizzly - You didn't mention how long you were going to be in Paris. Here is a hotel that has resonable rates. Hotel Marignan
Try Hotel Residence Foch. They have great reviews on Trip Advisor and we stayed there in a family room and it was nice.Plenty of space for a family of four and nice breakfast.
We (family of four including two teens) stayed in a nice quad room at Hôtel La Louisiane last summer. The room was basic but consisted of two bed rooms and two bathrooms. I think each bedroom contained two twins, but they were pushed together in one room to make a big bed. The extra bathroom is really great for four people trying to get ready at the same time. They were not serving breakfast in August when we were there, so I can't comment on that.
One more vote for an apartment. We are going to use vacationinparis.com. REALLY reasonable. We leave next week (can't believe I can finally say that!), and already have the keys in hand. We will be traveling with our 2 adult kids (23&20), and need room to spread out a bit. Also, we can have at least breakfast and some luches there, not to mention the option of dinner (but I think we will definitely be dining out in Paris :)
Look on slowtrav.com for reviews of some of the apartments.
We've used vacationinparis and were very happy with their service. Our apartment was wonderful, as well as being cheaper and roomier than staying in a hotel. Don't be intimidated by having to "fend for yourself" or buy your own food; that's all part of the fun!
