Looking for advice - Going to Europe this summer

I'm headed over to Europe this summer to study abroad, the first 6 weeks of my trip will be with my university, and then I plan on doing some traveling on my own. I've been trying to map out a realistic itinerary over the past couple of days, but haven't been able to finalize anything (too indecisive). The basic schedule looks something like this:

Program: 6 weeks Total (May 17th - June 28th)

Nantes France 2 weeks

Prague Czech 1 week

Budapest Hungary 1 week

London England 2 week

Me on my own: 3 weeks Total (all on trains) (June 28th - July 21st)

Paris France 4 days

Lyon France 2 days

Interlaken Switzerland 3 days (skydiving, woo!)

Venice Italy 3-4 days

Rome Italy 4 days

Nice / Cannes France 1-2 days

Barcelona Spain 3 days

The last week is a little hazy, the trip from Rome to Barcelona will take forever, I'm not sure if that's the best use of my time/money... so I'm debating how I want to finish the trip. I might just skip Nice and fly from Rome to Barcelona, I plan on staying mainly in hostels and such to keep the cost down, otherwise I'm expecting to spend about $80-100 a day. Any suggestions for me (any attractions worth noting in the cities I'll be visiting, ect)? I don't really have any thing I'm DYING to see, so my schedule is fairly flexible (I just need to get to Interlaken to skydive above the Alps). Lastly, has anyone had any luck finding a place to exercise in Europe for relatively cheap? I haven't been over there since I was 10 (21 now), and I didn't really take notice of gyms back then. I'm a personal trainer, I'd just hate to be out of the gym for 2 months (it's an addiction, haha). Thanks in advance, John

Thanks! Right after I posted this, I started looking at flights from Rome to Barcelona, I had no idea they were so ridiculously cheap, I might just skip Nice and head straight over to Spain... I'm not really sure what I was going to do in Nice anyway, so it's not a huge loss.

I'll look into hang gliding/parasailing too, thanks, didn't even think about trying those. I've been skydiving once before back in St. Louis, but I imagine the view is a little better above the alps, haha. I'm also going to try something called Canyoning, my friends told me about it... from what I understand, you basically jump around a river, using ropes and such to repel off of stuff... seems pretty cool. Thanks !

Yea, unfortunately, I'm probably going to end up spending more than $100 a day, but that's what credit cards are for, right? :) I don't really plan on buying any souvenirs, but hopefully I take a bunch of pictures.

Thanks for the headsup (about their vacations), I think I'm going to try and get out of Barcelona by the 17th, which should leave me ample time in the cities leading up to Spain, I'll just be cutting out Nice. I was really hoping I'd make it to Pamplona for the bullruns, but my schedule just wouldn't allow it, :( . I'm sure it's a crazy mess of people anyway, probably not the most thing to endure.

Interlaken is definitely a fun place to visit! I went for a weekend this past summer while i was studying abroad and we stayed at the funny farm which was a good hostel and they will help you in planning all your excursions...i didn't try it (i was pretty broke by this time!) but alot of people went canyoning and said it was an awesome experience

I don't know if it's cheap but Aquaboulevard in Paris has a gym. It looked well equiped.

Thanks, I was actually just looking at Hostels today, and decided on Funny Farm after reading reviews... glad to see someone else who had a good experience there. Were there alot of drunk college kids there, or am I actually gonna be able to get some sleep? I feel like Interlaken is going to be filled w/ stupid frat boys, I want to limit my exposure to them if I can, lol.

I'll look into Aquaboulevard, thanks alot!

yeah, the funny farm is going to attract those kinds of people, since they do have a bar and the guys that work there are all relatively young...so its definitely geared toward a younger crowd...but i didn't party at all while i was there and really it wasnt bad at all...i was on the computer right next to the bar one night typing one of my med school essays, so it couldnt have been too bad....but i had a good experience there overall and if you're traveling with other people then try and get a room for just you and them rather than sharing with other people and then you won't have to room with any frat guys :)

I LOVED Gimmelwald near Interlaken. It was my favorite place in Europe. Rick Steves talks about it in his book. Check it out. SO worth it. We were going to just stay for a night but ended up staying 3 because we loved it so much.
