Looking for a sensible travel route from Frankfurt to Morocco to Sweden with hiking

I understand this is a big request for ideas so I do not mind bits and pieces for ideas.

Land in Frankfurt June 23 2023 from NZ-2 adults in 50s and son 23 at 6:30 am.
We want to go somewhere to hike until June 30 then we fly to Morocco. We would love suggestions on where to go for this week. We were thinking of flying to Munich and staying for 2 days then to Mittenwald until JUne 30 then to Morocco via Munich.

As we arrive in Frankfurt at 6:30 am and will be very tired, I wanted to optimise this day to travel to a destination that we could check in at hotel then rest. We could tour Munich but I was wondering if another destination was better.

The flights to Morocco from Munich are all at 6am so I was wondering if another area is better? Should we head towards Spain from Frankfurt knowing we will take a flight to Morocco on July 1st? Train preferable but we could also fly from Frankfurt to a suitable area.

Leave Morocco sometime between July 7-13. Our son flys out of Barcelona at 10:30am on the 14th. We would love ideas for adventure from July 7-13 either in Morocco, Spain. Portugal. Hiking-good 4-6 hour day trips or multiday, surfing-experienced but not Big Waves. We would fly from Marrakech to ??

From July 14, my husband and I have at least a month to travel before we are expected in Sweden in first or second week of August. We would love to either be in the Pyrennes or the Dolomites or somewhere where hiking is bearable in the summer. We are very much up for ideas of regions that offer good hiking in cooler climates between Barcelona and Sweden. We will be traveling through Norway once in Sweden and friends arranging that.

We would like to avoid a car rental as much as possible. We do not want to hit the big cities for more than an overnight.

Thanks so much for any ideas.

Not sure why you are heading to Munich, when the entire Taunus Mountains are a 30 min. train ride from Frankfurt. Full of lovely, medieval towns that are not featured by Rick. (Limburg, Marburg, Idstein, Kronberg, Bad Soden, Oberursel, Königstein, etc.
Hiking in the Taunus is popular with locals too. Alternative, you could hike along the Rhein. At the end, return by train to Frankfurt and fly off to Morocco.

Edit: Have you thought about walking part of the Camino as it goes over the Pyrenees? Lots of places to stay all along the route, and you can choose how long of a day you want to walk?

Plenty of places that offer hiking in the Frankfurt area, so no need to travel somewhere else. But if you do want to travel somwhere close by, like Munich, the train is usually a better idea than flying.

Where in Morocco are you going? It sounds like Spain is a good place to visit after Morocco, if you have a week there you could do a couple of days in Seville, a few in Madrid before you end up in Barcelona. But there are many other options.

For hiking in bearable weather in mid-July, I'd say go north. Why not head to Sweden a bit early? The Swedish Tourist Association has a few suggestions for good trails: https://www.swedishtouristassociation.com/hiking/stfs-signature-trails/

Not sure why you planned to land in Frankfurt then go all the way to Morocco, then backtrack all the way to Sweden.
Wouldn't it be better to go directly to Sweden from Frankfurt, then head south to Spain and Morocco.

Still, consider hiking the famous trail in Spain to Santiago de Compostela (in NW Spain)

While in Scandinavia, consider hiking Norwegian fjords.

Another option that I did with my teenaged kids over 35 years ago was a two day hike from Garmisch, Germany up to the top of the Zugspitze (highest mountain in Germany). You hire a guide and spend one night in a hutte. In Summer there will still be some ice and snow at the top, but it is a magnificent and scenic hike. No mountain climbing, just a hike.

You really need to figure out exactly where you'd like to go and what cities to fly through.

The tops in hiking would be to fly to Munich. Pick up a rental car there and head for Innsbruck. The best hiking is not where trains go. You could hike from town to town in the Northern Dolomites--some cities of which have ski lifts to take you up to the top of the mountains. The Western Tirol also has as good of hikes are there are anywhere. Switzerland is also not far. All 3 have incredible scenery.

You could turn the rental car in at Frankfurt Airport and fly to Casablanca on Royal Air Maroc.

You mention possibly going to Spain or Portugal. I warn you that Spain is a much larger country than many people realize. We took the train from Barcelona to Paris, and it was 650 miles. France is the same way--very large.

Thank you all for such wonderful ideas. I will check them all out. Our trip is a bit back and forth but we unfortunately have commitments to Morocco for July 1- to about 14 then have a commitment to be in Sweden for most of August hence the east to west and back east again route.
I will start checking out the recommendations and I am sure I will be back with lots more requests for advice.

You can certainly get to Innsbruck by flying to Munich and then rent a car. But even easier would be to fly direct to Innsbruck. Or take the train.

hence the east to west and back east again route.

You might want to adjust your map a bit, it's more of a north to south route.

Welcome back! It will also be helpful if you answered the questions in the thread.
