How do I get a refund for a canceled trenhotel? Bought my tickets on line with RENFE, but on the day of travel in Barcelona the train was canceled due to a strike in France. We were told at the time that we could seek a refund after we returned home, ...but how?
Jeff - If you used a credit card for the ticket purchase, contact your credit card company and dispute the charge since you did not receive the services you purchased. It's often easier and faster than going through the carrier.
Julie, credit card companies require you to show that you have first attempted in good faith to resolve the problem with the merchant. See http://www.bankrate.com/brm/news/cc/20020617a.asp
Thank you. All good advice. We have attempted to call RENFE at different times by phone and no one answers. We got one E-Mail response back telling us to go to the train station for refund. This doesn't make sense since we bought the tickets on line and the train station RENFE folks told us to file for a refund later. It's starting to look like we will have to go through our credit card company.
Hi, Jeff. I would definitely call the CC company, and let them fight it for you.
If you haven't already, document your attempts to contact RENFE and talk to them. Also, if you can find proof of the strike in a news article or some such, that would really help your cause.
Also - if you have proof of your alternative travel (tickets, receipts, changed reservations, whatever) that would help.
Best of luck! Sorry to hear about that!
