Looking for a European brand name for Ensure Plus

Hi-

My family will be traveling in Europe for a month (Italy, Switzerland, Bavaria, France). My middle child (age 12) has been having trouble gaining weight and is currently under doctor's orders to drink two bottles of "Ensure Plus" per day to give him extra calories.

Is anyone familiar with what the equivalent brand of this type of thing would be in Europe? Not sure if it would be a different name or same name in all of those areas.

If you have seen such a thing, please let me know. I assume I can get them in a grocery store or pharmacy like here.

Thanks for any ideas,
Cindy

The Ensure website has this tel.number: 1 844 377 7233. You could phone and ask them.

I remember a tour member buying a similar product in a Florence pharmacy (my first exposure to that product), but don't recall the brand name. Based on that, I would expect them to be available in all your countries of travel. Pharmacists often speak English, or it may help to bring on old label with you.

I've just looked through the Tescos online and the Boots the Chemists online shops and neither have that particular brand listed, although there are dozens of various supplements from whey products tp vitamin products to protein products in various brand names.

Would his doctor allow generic but similar products while he is away from home? Or similar branded products made by competitors or local manufacturers?

I would have thought that if the UK doesn't have Ensure Plus then it would be unlikely that it would be known elsewhere on the Continent...

Good luck with the search

If that number that Norma gave you doesn't get results, try Abbott Lab's phone number for their nutritional supplements department: 800-551-5838

Nestle sells a product called Boost, even having a Boost Plus. Nestle being a European company, I assume it is available in Europe.

You may find though that in Europe, it may not be in supermarkets or groceries. It is more common that you would go to a stand alone pharmacy (look for the green cross).

It might be best to pack at least a supply of 6 or so in checked luggage to hold you over until you locate what you need.

Does this nutritional supplement come in a powdered form that you could take with you and reconstitute? Perhaps your doctor or nutritionist would know about a powered form of the key nutritional ingredients.
