We're considering a flight from Dallas to Athens, Greece, that has a 14 hour layover in London. We'd like to leave Heathrow and spend some time in London during the layover. Our question is--can we check our luggage all the way through to Athens (British Airways), or will we need to claim it, to through customs, and then re-check it? If the latter, can we re-check it immediately? We'd prefer not having to find some place at the airport to store it while we are in London. We don't mind storing our carry-ons, but it might be a pain to store larger bags.

If both your flights are on BA, you will be able to through check your bags and thus have time to enjoy London.

If both flights are operated by BA, your checked bags are automatically sent to Athens.
