Has anyone done the Icelandair flight out of Seattle to Reykejavik? I was thinking about doing it this coming June with a stop over for three days in Iceland. Just wondering if it was worth the stop?
Minneapolis to Europe via Iceland three times. Perfect. No trouble whatsoever. On time. Pleasant. Iceland is interesting in a wonderfully odd sort of way. It's a worthwhile experience to stopover. But even if you don't stay, the transfer of planes is fast, incredibly simple, and usually the lowest fare available (though this year has been notably higher than 2008, 2009, 2010). This is a fairly commonly asked question. You should "Iceland Air" into the search engine in the upper right of your screen and see what comes up.
Iceland is great! The people are really friendly. Very different geologically. Bit cold and dark, esp winter ... Don't miss esp if summer time.

We flew from BWI when it was a gateway for Icelandair...to FRA and took advantage of the stopover in Reykjavik coming home. We have friends in Reykjavik, so we were lucky enough to enjoy private lodging and touring way outside of the city over a couple of days. But you don't need a local friend there in order to rent a car or do a day tour. Driving is easy, even the city. Some of the most interesting landscapes you'll ever experience...certainly worth it IMO (why not stop if you're going through there anyway). Everyone speaks English fluently. I'm currently looking at booking an upcoming trip on Icelandair from Randy's hometown...haven't decided yet if I'll stopover again on this one...timing will be tight for me coming back. No issues whatsoever with the airline itself...some don't like long flights on a 757 with single aisle, but it doesn't bother me. Cabins have been completely updated...leather...seat back entertainment system, etc. Nice airline. Plus, you clear immigration at Keflavik airfield (small and very efficient), so you can hit the ground running in London without waiting in long lines at Heathrow. I say go for it.
Yes. Last summer we did Seattle Reykjavik (Keflavik- Reykjavik is 45 km away) and after six day in Iceland Reykjavik Munich. You can either rent a car (very expensive, actually almost everything is very expensive in Iceland) or you can take very well organized bus tours. They even come for you to your hotel in Reykjavik. I think it is well worth the stop.
Yes, definitely worth the stop. I've flow Icelandair out of Seattle to Europe three times now (two were to London). I totally agree with the other positive remarks. Additionally here two more reasons to like Icelandair: 1)They don't fill my foot space (under the seat in front of me) with electronic boxes. 2) Overall flight time is reduced and longest leg is only about 6 1/2 hours (Seattle to Keflavik) the stop is brief. I stayed at Nordica Hilton on my last trip (Spring 2011). I took the full-day Netbus Golden Circle tour and used Flybus+ for transfers. All went well and I recommend. I'm booked to do another stopover this summer on my return trip but for three nights this time.
Enjoy!
