my family and i are going to inverness this october for the loch ness marathon. we're thinking of flying to london and staying 2 days then driving to inverness for part of the stay (3 days) and then having a fun roadtrip back to london. i'm worried it's too much to cram into a weeks vacation. but i also thought it would fun to see england and scotland by car. our other idea is to fly into edinburgh and drive to inverness. the drive is quite a bit shorter and we would be focusing our attention on one area.
this may be a silly question but is this plan to whirlwind?
Angela, a couple of years ago I drove from Edinburgh to Inverness in one day. We did stop at most of the sights along the road which is why it took us an entire day - and we didn't really get to enjoy the sights as we could only spend a few minutes here and maybe half an hour there. So for the scenic part of the drive a stop over half way might make sense. I suppose if you drive straight thru from Edinburgh to Inverness it's about a 4 hours drive. London to Inverness is a 10 hours drive (stops not included).
