London Paris Rome for two adult daughters and thier mother any help or suggestions welcome :-)

We have never toured Europe and want to "hit the highlights" this first time. 10-13 days. Looking for suggestions on guided tours (Trafalgar?) or help in planning self guided. Newbie travelers at ages 50, 56 and 75, but very excited to travel August-September 2014.

You can easily organize this on your own, no need for a tour.

September is preferable to August, and 13 days is a minimum. Start by booking your flights, flying into London, and home from Rome. You will also fly from Paris to Rome, can can either book this as part of your main ticket,,as "multi-city", or book separately with on of the budget airlines like EasyJet. You will travel by Eurostar train from London to Paris. You can save money on those tickets by buying 120 days ahead on the Eurostar website.

Once you have your dates and flight tickets, start looking for accommodations. You can ask here for suggestions on places with triple rooms ( or a single plus a double?) in good locations. Or use Rick Steves books---you will want to consult those for sightseeing suggestions too.

Plan on four nights in each city.

Maybe Monogram Tours (a subsidiary of Globus) would be a good lace to start. They specialize in planning tours where you do what you want, when you want, and they book flight, trains and hotels according to your wishes. I don't know where you live, but Senior Tours, in Canada, is another you can investigate.

Hello Angela. Guided tours are not needed. In London, my favorite places are The Museum of London, The British National Gallery (of art), and Windsor Castle (a palace of the royal family). Go to Windsor Castle as a day trip from London, via a railroad train. In London, I think it is not necessary to be at a hotel that is located near the places that you will visit. Travelling across London in the London Underground trains does not take very much time. In Rome, I recommend : minimize your number of rides in the METRO underground trains. They are crowded, it was stressful and unpleasant for me. I suggest : try to have your overnight accomodation at a place located near the Trevi fountain, and ride in Taxi cars, or walk from the hotel to the places that you want to go to. If you want to see old art in Rome, I recommend going to the Villa Borghese Galleries, only. In the Vatican art gallery the visitors are required to move constantly, and some people were not able to see the paintings because of the people in front of them. Rome is a very big and stressful city. Try to plan to avoid stress. That is : be in a quiet hotel room. And try to eat your meals in a quiet place. You will not have much time in Rome. Seeing the Trevi fountain at night is pleasant : bright lights are on the sculpture at the Trevi fountain. People sit on the steps there and eat Gelato, and I liked chatting with people from other countries there. And try to plan to not feel tired when you arrive at Rome.
