We are going to be in London in a couple weeks for about 4 days. I am wondering what the best deal to get is for passes on the the tube and/or bus lines. I know we'll be needing to use them quite a bit to get around. Any ideas on the best/ least expensive pass?
You have several options.
1- buy single day travel passes (paper) from a National Rail station. . These are good for all buses, the tube and Docklands light rail. DO NOT by at a Tube station. They are also good for the 2-fo-1 deals (see this website http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk). You might want to print out the 'vouchers' you are interested in taking advantage of before leaving home ass the booklets are not always available in the train stations (they have them but sometimes run out). 2- buy an Oyster card and load it with some pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) cash and daily travel card(s) as needed. the Oyster will automatically calculate the least expensive cost for your travel each day. HOWEVER- it is NOT go od for the 2-4-1 deals. You can return it at the end of your stay if you wish and get back your deposit and any remaining PAYGO cash. 3- buy a 7 day paper travel card (as in #1). It may be cheaper than 4 single travel passes. You also have to provide a passport sized (but not passport quality) head shot photo for the free ID card they make to go with the 7 day pass. It is also good on the 2-4-1 deals.
