London and Paris or Italy with kids age 2 and 5.

I'm trying to decide about our next vacation. My kids are very used to go around. We have been Bahamas, Mexico, Brazil and around the us with the kids.

We are planing to go the end of august or middle of November. We are staying 10-12 days.

What do you guys suggest? Any trip tips or intinerary or where to go.

Thank you

London, Paris and Italy would all be fine with kids. I would always prefer to go in November over August for the sake of weather - Italy in particular will be hot in August. November will be comfortable and tends to be dry.
I took my girls to Paris when they were 4 and 6 - we had a grand time. We rented an apartment in the 7th and settled in for two weeks. We got to know the food vendors and shop owners in the Rue Cler area and they started recognizing my girls (the French are exceptionally kind to children!). It was really nice to have an apartment for naps (or at least "quiet time"), easy meals and laundry. There are so many amazing parks - the playground at the Luxemburg Gardens is incredible. We climbed the towers at Notre Dame to get up close with the gargoyles. We counted ballerinas in the Musee d'Orsey. We picnicked all over the City - on the Ile de la City, in the gardens at the Rodin Museum. We got to know the bus routes well as we found it easier to navigate with little ones and a stroller (when we took one) on and off buses than onto the subway.

Italy if November; London if August.

We had a week in London with my grandchildren last May. They were ages "almost 2" and 4. They loved it, especially Kew Gardens and the Thames pedestrian path on the South Bank.

I think children, ages 2 and 5, would not appreciate being at London, or Paris, or Italy. If they go there, they will not remember any of it.

But the parents will have precious memories, and photos.

Who is this trip actually for? Kids that age are not interested in sight seeing so what would you intend on doing in London or Paris? At that age they'd be far more content with a beach holiday or at a resort with plenty of pools, kids clubs etc.

With young children holidays are all about playing, usually in water, and as parents we have to make sacrifices and forgo some of the things that we'd rather do. Exploring cities can wait until they're older but even with a 12 and 9 year old they tire quickly of traipsing around cities and would rather be jumping into the pool back at the hotel. Your kids may be used to touring cities but do they actually enjoy it?

My advice if you're set on visiting Europe is to aim for Italy in August and find a nice resort on the coast or the lakes and stay there. Let the kids have fun in the water, the adults can relax and you can all experience a laid back, Italian summer full of good food, good wine, good weather and a nation full of people who adore children. Trust me, it will be a lot more enjoyable than slogging around trying to fit in as many 'must see's' as you can. I've been to many iconic sights but the holidays that have been the most memorable and enjoyable were the ones where I simply kicked back and relaxed.

Believe or not but my daughter is very into museums. She learned all about Europe at school this year and keep asking to go.

I totally believe you. My grandson was 4 in London last May and loved the museums. He specifically wanted to see the mummies at the British Museum and the Apollo 10 space capsule at the Science museum. He loved the Transport Museum, which is pretty much designed for kids. At the Victoria and Albert he loved Asian art. Live butterflies at the Natural History museum (curiously, he did not want to go inside and see dinosaurs).

There are opportunities for water play at the Victoria and Albert ( a courtyard wading pool) and on the southbank neat the London City Hall--- a playful fountain and little stream to float things down. Or take them to family swim time at the Olympic Park pool---it is beautiful and very inexpensive.

The kids were fascinated watching the buskers here and there, loved riding the double-decker buses, and were intrigued by the activity at the skateboard park (also on the south bank pedestrian path). Kew I mentioned above.

There was much more we could have done with them, but a week was not long enough. We had a nice apartment and enough "down time" that it was relaxing, not hectic, to get outside each dY for a park or museum excursion.

London is a great place for children.
