London and Ireland

Four of us friends are planning a trip to London and Ireland. Looking for ideas of how long to stay in London and then Ireland. Not wanting at this time to go into N. Ireland. We will have 2 weeks. What do you all think? Also, where to go in Ireland.

I have spent a total of 10 days in London on two different trips and spent a week in Ireland on a third trip. Here is what I would do with two weeks: 1. Fly into Shannon, Ireland. See cliffs of Moore, begin working your way South and East through the Dingle Peninsula and towards Dublin. There are plenty of sights to see along the way and are all outlined in the RS book. You will need a car and should plan at least 3-5 days for this, maybe longer. 2. From Dublin, you could fly to England. The options here are many. You could fly to York and work your way South to London or fly to another town on the West side of England and work your way to London. Or you could just fly straight to London. 3. Once in London, you should budget at least 3 to 5 days here. Use your other time for a couple of day trips to Bath or Warrick Castle or where ever you might want to go. You could also do the trip in reverse if you can get a better airfare that way. You will need to get a couple of the RS books to help you plan. Good Luck!!

Where are you going first, the UK or Ireland? What are your interests - nature, shopping, historical sites, museums, picturesque towns? An idea of your budget would be helpful, too. Will you be renting a car? I would be happy to suggest some places in Ireland (the Cliffs of Moher - not Moore - are a must, in my opinion) once I have a better idea of what you would like to see. You could base in Dublin and do daytrips from there, or take a swing through the south from one side to the other. But that will be dependent on where you are starting out and how you are getting around.

I have been to Ireland before, except down south, but my friends have not. My favorite spot being the Doolin area. Would like to visit more of the west coast plus down south. Suggestions? We can't do it all. will come back and spend time up north in Ulster. inhave been to Belfast and N. East coast. Then I'm thinking 4-5 days London and area. Where is the Downton Abbey?

Can you fly into London and then eventually on to Shannon by discount airline and home from Shannon, I think that way you can avoid London departure tax maybe? Discount airlines are very strict on luggage so you aware. From Shannon there is so much to see in the west. You have already been to Doolin, how about Dingle, Beara to Kinsale, Cobh and then back to Shannon to come home. Just some ideas.

Thanks everyone! Is there a list of "must see" in London and surrounding areas? I know everyone is different but there are certain sites that are a must.

You can find a list of "must sees" in any guidebook. Since everyone here would offer their own list, and none of them would be the same, you would be just as well off to consult several different guidebooks and see what they consider the best of the best.

You can also look on line, type in "top ten attractions" in London, Ireland etc or wherever you are going and then suggest the four of you review and decide from there.
