If you only had three or four days to visit London, what part of London would you stay in? Best moderately priced way to way to tour the city?
Hello Martha, We've been to London about 6 times so far and tend to like the Earl's Court/Kensington area - close to the sights, relatively quiet and has a nice mix of stores and restaurants -although given how efficient the tube is, it really doesn't make that big a difference - on our last trip, we stayed right off Oxford because we were only there a few days and had specific shopping we needed to do while we were there. As for making the best use of your time, I would list (in order of importance) what you'd like to see/do while in London - by each item, I'd note opening days and hours and then group things together by proximity - that way you aren't eating up lots of valuable time cris crossing the city. If the weather is good, we generally take the tube to the farthest destination for the day and then just walk from one site to another - being on foot is still the best way to really "see" the city. However, if the weather is not cooperating then it's always nice to have the tube option to get between activities/sights. The tube/buses are the best and most economical way to get around the city and are quite easy to use. Since we've gone a number of times, we each have an Oyster card that we just top up when we get to the airport - depending upon how much you are going to use the tube individual tickets may work out cheaper but for the minimal cost differential, I like the ease and convenience of the Oyster card. London is a fabulous city with something for everyone - hope you enjoy your trip!!
Nancy, Thanks so much for the info. I have a son studying for a semester at Oxford and he will finish in Dec. I will join him. How expensive did you find accommodations? (I'm originally from Newport Beach
Martha, hotels in London tend to be pricey. I stay in B&B's when visiting there. If you would like the website info of the agency I use, private message me and I will be happy to share.
Yes, when you have time I would love the name and website. Thanks, Martha
The Premier Inn chain has hotels all over London. Very basic, like a Comfort Inn, but decent. Last week we stayed at the one by the airport (before an early flight) for only 39pounds for 4 people including breakfast--got a hot internet deal. Try the Premier Inn at Victoria Station or County Hall. I've been to both with rates varying between 50-180 pounds a night, depending on time of year and special deals. Both centrally located and good stops on the tube.
Martha, I have sent you a private message with the agency information.
Martha, Next to where it shows you are signed in there is "my profile"...you should see something like "new message" click on that and you will find my message with the B&B info.
Pat, is there a reason why you can't post the website here?
