lodging for 60 year olds

We plan to spend about 60 days in northern Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark Fall 2014. We are looking for economical lodging so that we can stay for that long. We would rent a room, or apartment, or stay on a hostel if they had some privacy, but I don't know websites to use. Any suggestions?

Personally, I would look more at apartment rentals.

You can start with these websites:

airbnb

vrbo

homeaway

venere

booking

hostelworld

At one point or another, I have used each of these websites when arranging for my own travels.

I'd start with airbnb, if I were you. Good luck!

slf,

The best place to start would be to have a look at some Guidebooks for each of the places you'll be visiting, as those usually list accommodations in various price ranges in various parts of each city.

If your budget is really limited, you could consider staying in a private room in a Hostel. Have a look at the HI Hostels website to see if they what they have in each city. Not all of their properties may have private rooms, but as they usually have several properties in each city, there's a good chance you'll be able to get a private room. There are also independent Hostels (not affiliated with HI), but it's difficult to provide advice on those without having a list of the cities you'll be visiting.

You could also look at staying in budget hotels, which are usually very centrally located in each city. The price in some cases will be about the same as what you'd pay for a private Hostel Room, and breakfast is usually provided. I have no information on apartments as I usually travel solo, but I'm sure the others will have lots of great information to share. You'll probably find that Denmark is somewhat more expensive than the other locations you're visiting, so you'll need to budget accordingly.

Happy travels!

Hi,

For the HI hostels in Germany, look at hostelinginternational.com If you want it in German, it's djh.de.

Which cities/towns in north German do you plan on staying at?

On expenses: The HI hostels in Germany serve dinner as well, such as in Bremen, Hamburg, Lübeck, etc. In 2009 a full hot dinner costs between 6-7 Euro. I had it then in Hamburg. Plus, the train station area has usually several 2 star hotels and independent hostels. There is also the "Y" as a place of accomodation, in addition to small hotels, Pensionen, and hostels. The "Y" is listed as CVJM in Lübeck, Berlin, Hannover , if those cities are on your list.
