Liquids in a carry on

I will be bringing only a cary on. My quart bag will hold more that 3 bottles of fluids measuring 3.4 oz. The TSA website shows just 3 bottles in their pictures, but it doesn't say you are limited to 3.

"You are allowed to bring a quart-sized bag of liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes in your carry-on bag and through the checkpoint. These are limited to travel-sized containers that are 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less per item. Placing these items in the small bag and separating from your carry-on baggage facilitates the screening process. Pack items that are in containers larger than 3.4 ounces or 100 milliliters in checked baggage. "

My interpretation of this would be that I can bring as many 3.4 oz or less containers that I can fit in a quart bag. I typically check my luggage when traveling, but won't this time. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,
Cynthia

You're not limited to 3. I put lots of things in my quart size bag....many are smaller than 100 ml so I often have 6 or 7 little things in there.

Yes, all the containers < 3.4 ounces that you can fit into the quart bag is what they accept. Since you haven't done this previously, have your bag of liquids in a place handy (front pocket of your suitcase?) so when you go through TSA security, you won't slow down the line.

Mine has as many as I can cram in and still zip the bag!

Yes, with exceptions.

https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/liquids-rule

Liquids Rule

You are allowed to bring a quart-sized bag of liquids, aerosols, gels,
creams and pastes in your carry-on bag and through the checkpoint.
These are limited to travel-sized containers that are 3.4 ounces (100
milliliters) or less per item. Placing these items in the small bag
and separating from your carry-on baggage facilitates the screening
process. Pack items that are in containers larger than 3.4 ounces or
100 milliliters in checked baggage.

Any liquid, aerosol, gel, cream or paste that alarms during screening
will require additional screening.

Exceptions are prohibited liquids. Namely liquids that are flammable, explosive and/or corrosive. For examples, see:
https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/prohibited-items

Even if an item is generally permitted, it may be subject to
additional screening or not allowed through the checkpoint if it
triggers an alarm during the screening process, appears to have been
tampered with, or poses other security concerns.

When you are boarding your plane back, EU regulations (widely applied even outside proper EU states) require that the small bottles are closed into a single transparent and resealable plastic bag, up to 20 x 20 cm. The bag should be taken out of the carry on and screened separately.

FYI, twelve miniature liquor bottles will fit in a 3-1-1 bag. Don't ask.

You may include two or more bottles of the same liquid (e.g. shampoo). Also, for safety, use two plastic bags...the required size and then a one gallon size (easier to seal).

Yup...my liquid bag has shampoo, 2 conditioner, contact lens solution, moisturizer, sunscreen, night cream, hair cream, small tubes of over-the counter medical creams, toothpaste, facial cleanser, and deodorant. Yes, all this fits in a TSA bag, some bottles are 1 oz, some are 3. Different sizes. You can fit a ton in these bags, and anything goes as long as it's not on the danger list

I use a contact lens case and put liquid makeup in one side and facial moisturizer in the other.

Cynthia,

Your interpretation is correct.

I use these ziploc freezer bags with a flat (expandable) bottom & pack 3, 3oz bottles (shampoo, conditioner, & lotion) as well as a smaller bottle of sunblock, trial size toothpaste, lipgloss, etc.
My deodorant is not a gel or liquid, so it doesn't go in this bag.

I always pack extra ziploc bags, all different sizes as they always come in handy.

I recently used this Neutragena sunscreen & it doesn't have to go in the 3-1-1 liquid bag either!

Have a wonderful trip!

I bought this 3-1-1 bag for my husband to use. I also have this 3-1-1 bag for myself. Both are made of heavier gauge plastic and have survived many trips. Neither bag has caused any issues with security, either here or Europe. Since I had security issue over a lip stick, I go ahead and put eyeliner as well as the lipstick in my liquids bag.
I put my liquids bag in the top of my purse. This helps me remember to place it in the bin while passing through security. After clearing security, I put inside carryon.
