I need a recommendation for a lightweight folding trekking pole that folds or collapses to 18" - 21" to fit my carry-on. Thanks

Just because they fold down to fit, does not mean they will be allowed in a carry-on bag
Joy,
About five months ago someone asked about trekking poles on the forum. Search "trekking poles" on this site, filter for six months or newer and you will find a good discussion on them. It's bnot a good idea to bring in a carry-on.
If you're going to buy one, just wait until you get to Europe. They may actually be less expensive. I bought a pair in Lidl (a chain store in Germany) for 12 euro just a couple months ago. They weigh 100 grams more than the $100 pair I got at REI a few years back, but I don't notice it. They are very common over here.
For our trip to Scandinavia last fall, I bought a set of poles from York Nordic that fold down to 15” and are super lightweight. They were great for hiking in Norway. Although they easily fit in my carry-on suitcase (unlike all my telescoping poles that are too long, even at their shortest), I checked them for flights. I’m taking them to France next month, but will check them with my carry-on sized suitcase. Even as light as they are, Security must be afraid that a terrorist would wield them like a pool cue or thin baseball bat, or at least put somebody’s eye out.
On past trips, I tried to find loaner or rental poles, but no luck. In Italy, the only poles available to buy were really good quality, really expensive brands. Last year, I bought a pair of store brand telescoping poles from a hiking shop in Ireland that were on sale for less than €40, but doing carry-on, I had to leave them in Ireland - donated them. I’ve taken my other poles with me previously, but in a longer duffel that had to be checked.
Check out models on www.yorknordic.com or call 800-930-5928. I’m devoted to carry-on luggage, except when I’m going to be hiking or carrying things that can’t fit.
I have a bad back and still want to travel, so I purchased two collapsable walking poles on Amazon for $24.95. I took one with me to Spain and France last month. It fit in my checked luggage after I collapsed it. It is easy to stretch out after being collapsed.
