Light, inexpensive Rain outfit???

We have been looking everywhere for light, inexpensive outerwear (maybe nylon) for rainy weather for our trip to France, Switzerland & Italy this October. We went to an AAA travel seminar and the speaker displayed a small bag with a jacket and another small bag with pants. Anyone know where these can be found? or something similar? or any other suggestions? We would prefer not to use ponchos.

Any discount sporting goods store will have cheap rain pants and jackets that tuck into a small bag. If all you wants is basic protection in a sudden downpour, this would be the way to go.

While I don't own one of these, I am considering getting one:

Packable Raincoats

The only downside is no hood.

I like my Outdoor Research Reflexa jacket. Comes with a hood (that can be hidden), is waterproof and very lightweight. My only complaint would be its durability, with that said it is well made and OR is a great company. You can find it for around $100 bucks online.

Try Moosejaw or Sierra Trading.

I've seen them at both Target and Dick's Sporting Goods

Gary,

A few options for you to consider.....

You might have a look at THIS ITEM in the Travel Store on this website. I had occasion to use one in Switzerland this year, and it worked well. It's light and packs into a small container, so easy to carry (a bit challenging to get back into the container though, LOL).

You could also have a look at THIS PAGE with Raingear at Magellans. Lots of choices!

Finally, you might have a look at THIS ITEM, if you're only interested in a jacket.

Good luck and happy travels!

Thanks for all your suggestions. We went to Big 5 Sporting Goods today and found exactly what we were looking for: a very, light weight jacket/pants combo from "Dri Ducks." It was in a tan color. They had a very limited supply though.

Unless you are hiking, I don't think you really need rain pants. Just a jacket should be sufficient.

Target always has them in the camping area.

Costco has a set occasionally.
