Leaving tomorrow morning--do I need to bring my CA driver's license with me

Aside from renting audio equipment which I've seen a few people write about on here, is there any reason why I would need my driver's license since I will have my psssport with me as id? Can I just leave it at home? Thanks!

I'd take it...
You never know when you might need it, and it could be invaluable if your passport is lost or stolen. I certainly used my driver's license as ID here since I don't carry my passport around.

Also, it's probably too late now, but if you are a student, you should get an ISIC Card because there are great student discounts in Europe. A US institution student ID may work for some things, but often they will require an ISIC Card because it's something they can recognize easily as being valid.

I just got home from 6 weeks. I personally left my license in my wallet and always had it with me. I personally would have felt uncomfortable leaving my passport just in case. Losing my license overseas would've been much less of a big deal so I used my license when I needed it (which was only at an internet cafe, I didn't rent any audioguides anywhere I needed to leave anything). I think it's really a personal choice, but no, I don't think you would NEED it if you are comfortable always having your passport with you and accessible to use when ID is needed.

Can I use a student id (although expired but not obviously expired) as collateral for thing such as internet cafes?

yes take it - a second valid form of ID is always a good idea... and maybe you MIGHT just need it! The old Student ID for "colateral" is a good idea! take all 3 - its so small.

Marni,

If you are driving to the Airport you might want to take your Driver's lisence. Or you never know when your traveling partner might be too tired to drive home and need you to drive.
I don't know anything about fines in CA for driving without a licence but I know here in Canada it is hefty.

Or just a thought, maybe you might want to hire a car which they often ask for a photocopy of your Driver's licence. Not sure if this was already mentioned. Sorry, if it has, I'm really tired and better sign off...

I won't be driving at all in CA. I live 10 minutes from the airport and I'm getting a shuttle to bring me there. Was just wondering if it is necessary to have it while in Europe. Won't be driving there at all either. Thanks!

At the Louvre you have to LEAVE a piece of id for the audio guide, not just show it, I would way rather leave my DL then my passport!!
