Leaving rental car in Italy

I am going to have a one way car rental that starts in either Germany or Switzerland. I know that cars "rented in Italy" can't use their credit card for CDW, but what about my situation? Anyone with experience doing this?

Just get a definite quote from the rental agency specifically telling them you will drop the car in Italy. Maybe the drop fee will cause you to reconsider your plan.

You will pay a large drop fee for returning the car in a different country. We were quoted 1000€ one time.
Sometimes we rent our cars in Nice, France due to lower prices and use the car in Italy, returning it to Nice. No problems. Many of my friends do this too which is how I learned about it. Friends also do with renting in Switzerland but return it back there.

I am willing to pay the drop off fee, but would like to save on the hefty no deductible insurance fees. I have a Visa that covers everything, but unsure if it can be used.

I'd call AutoEurope to ask your question. They are based in the US on the east coast.

In this case you really should call VISA. And also be sure you get a clear statement from the rental agency what/where their coverage applies.

There may be folk on this forum who have rented with a one way to Italy, but their VISA may have had terms that are not the same as your VISA.

You need to talk to the 'horse', not get speculation from the well meaning peanut gallery.
