Does Le Garnier Opera House in Paris still have performances? How can I get tickets for Jan. 2 or 3rd of 2013?

Bummer. If nothing is playing those evenings, I guess we'll have to take a daytime tour to see the Opera House. Thanks so much for checking for me. :-(

Le Theatre du Chatelet is an interesting native. It offers a variety of performances, from classical concerts through Asian circus to pop shows. Fully staged operas are rarer but not unknown; I saw Placido Domingo three years ago in Cyrano de Bergerac, which was not as much fun as it sounds.
In the time period you mention, West Side Story will be in residence. Tickets are sold on-line. Seats on the main floor have the best view of the stage. http://chatelet-theatre.com/2012-2013/calendar
