Lautterbrunnen as a place to stay to go up the Jungfraujoch early January for non-skiers?

Hey folks,

My wife and I are coming from Miami for a winter excursion in Switzerland this coming late December and Jan.

We do want to go up to the Jongfraujoch for the day, but are wondering where to stay, where we can walk and explore without having to hike in the snow? (Is it possible without renting a car?)

Where should we stay? Would Lautterbrunnen be a good option? If not, where and how many days would you stay?

Also what is the typical mode of transport from train to hotel? Uber’s around? (Sorry for the ignorance!)

Usually walking, as towns are small. There are local taxis and public buses. If you stay in Wengen, there are hotels right next to the train station. You'll find the streets plowed and snow-free unless there is an ongoing snow event. Between Christmas and New Years will be busy and expensive as everyone in Europe is on vacation and ski vacations are popular ways to spend time during the holidays. There is also sledding on prepared tracks.
