Latvia and Lithuania travel guides

Heading to Estonia and want to visit Latvia and Lithuania, but don't see any Rick Steves travel guide books. Any feedback on visiting those countries.

Use google to access a number of guide books for those countries. Rick Steves has guide books for destinations where he offers group tours.

I like the Baltic states and I'm returning this June.

I mostly perused the internet for advice but also used Lonely Planet and Insight Guides.

Rick does have a guidebook that covers Tallinn.

You could also check your local library for guidebooks or as someone else suggested do a Google search for guidebooks. You will definitely want to visit those countries while you're in Estonia - lots of history (including more recent 1900's and since the war in Ukraine began and all the anti-Putin sentiment), beautiful countryside, good food and lots to see and do. It's a still relatively undiscovered part of Europe (especially Latvia and Lithuania) and well worth your time. I went on a Road Scholar tour through all 3 countries a couple of years ago, and if you look on the Road Scholar website for the tour it will give you some additional ideas of what you might want to see and do there.

Search amazon. There is a Lonely Planet guide to Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, 360 pages, published July 23, 2024. This is probably the best English-language guidebook about all three Baltic countries that was published recently enough. There is Insight Guides Estonia, Latvia & Lithuania, 376 pages, from January 2025. There is an Eyewitness guide to all 3 countries, 416 pages, published in June 2017. You could check the catalog of your local library and see if there any appealing guidebooks that have been published in the last 25 years. I wouldn't buy any guidebook that is over 5 years old if I could help it. An older guidebook might or might not describe places that still exist: since the Baltic states became independent from soviet and communist rule in about 1991, a lot more has probably changed in tourism and museum in these countries in the last 30 years than in certain other countries which an older guidebook might still be at least halfway useful for. Also see if there are any newish museums in buildings where the authorities or secret police tortured people during communist rule. You can also search amazon for "Lithuania guidebook" "Latvia guidebook" and "Estonia Guidebook". Credible books are part of a guidebook series, at least 150 pages, preferably over 250 pages, have few pictures, and are less than 5 years old, 10 years max. I took a Yiddish class in Vilnius, Lithuania in the summer of 2007 that I got college credit for, but I didn't give myself time to see museums or sites. I haven't traveled to Latvia or Estonia yet.

The one reference source I use for Baltics is "Rough Guide", especially as that pertains to Lithuania after 1500, historically, geographically, Lithuania was no backwater region.

I will be in the Baltic countries next month. I am using RS Scandanavia 2024 for Tallinn, Bradt Latvia 2024, and the Lonely Planet 2024 and DK Eyewitness (maybe 2018/19?) guides for Estonia-Latvia-Lithuania. I'm taking the RS Tallinn chapter and the Lonely Planet book with me. I also found the online "In Your Pocket" guides useful. In addition to the Road Scholar tours you might check OAT travel for their Baltics itinerary.

Will you connect the countries via train? The Seat 61 website explains how to purchase tickets. Traveller Tours and Discover Lithuania offer transfer day tours for Tallinn-Riga and Riga-Vilnius if you want to combine sightseeing with your transfer.
