While in Milan this coming October, we would like to view the Last Supper. There are many sites to purchase tickets and some amount of confusion about what other admission costs might apply. We really just want to see that, and not interested in the surrounding museums. Hoping someone can recommend a reputable site to purchase those tickets. Also looking for a modest hotel within, say a mile from the Duomo. Thank you....td
The official site for Last Supper tickets is here; you want Cenacolo Vinciano, on the left: http://www.vivaticket.it/index.php?&change_language=1
If you can't get tickets from the site mentioned, I have used Select Italy to buy tickets at a markup, but not nearly what an unnecessary city tour would cost.
Hotel: the train station area is fine, and the Metro will take you to the Duomo in minutes. I like Hotel Garda or Hotel Berna, on the same street, a couple of blocks from the station.
Agree with Zoe. We stayed at Hotel Berna last month. Lovely hotel with great staff and huge (you can skip lunch) breakfast buffet. Very convenient to Milano Centrale.

Whilst I have no complaint, Hotel Berna failed to make an impression on me when I stayed - very staid.
Thank you all for the timely responses and good information. Will check into those ticket sites and the recommended hotels.
We stayed at Hotel Gran Duca di York. It offered a good breakfast and is walking distance to the Duomo and good restaurants. We found it via Rick's book, of course, but it also had great reviews on TripAdvisor.
