I haven't stayed there but since you had no reply I would suggest going to tripadvisor.com and searching for lodging options and reviews.

Another option is to check some of the more exhaustive travel guides, lonely planet, rough guide and Michelin all have a lot more listings to choose from than Rick's books. I usually take listings from these guides and look them up on tripadvisor anyway.

I guess it depends on what you like (doesn't is always).

I've been to Lindau five times - love the town. Picturesque, painted buildings. Beautiful view of the Alps. The harbor is lovely. There's an interesting museum by the churches on the other end.

I've been through Friedrichshafen three times, twice at the Zeppelin museum there. For an engineer, it's fascinating. My wife, a liberal arts major, was bored.

I spent one night in Konstanz. Quaint old town, pretty harbor.

I hear the arboretum on the island of Mainau is worth a visit.
